Resumo: Population aging shows the need for the organization of health services and new practices that contemplate the specificities of the elderly population, especially in the Family Health Strategy (FHS) as a preferential gateway for users of the health system. This study aims to analyze the daily work of professionals of the FHS in the attention of the health of the elderly. A single case study was conducted, with a qualitative approach, based on the studies of Michel de Certeau´s Daily Life. The participants of the study were 21 professionals of Family Health teams (doctors, nurses and community health agents) and three others who occupy strategic positions, from the municipality of Montes Claros, Minas Gerais. The data was collected through an interview with semi-structured script and observation, during the period of May to July 2016. The interviews were submitted to the Thematic Content Analysis and the observations made enriched the process of data analysis. Four categories were organized The daily practice of professionals of Family Health teams in the health care of the elderly"; Service flows for the elderly: between maps and pathways; In view of what it was it has already improved"; and Perspective of attention to the elderly in the FHS: the need to actualize and define new strategies. The first category revealed a daily work focused on the strategies for assistance normalized by the Ministry of Health, prioritizing pathologies and attention to women and children, without specific activities for the elderly population. The professionals use tactics to include the elderly in medical appointments, prioritize them in home visits and make adaptations for health education groups. The second category describes the formal routing flows of the elderly by the FHS to referenced services of the municipality and ruptures of the flow due to lack of knowledge of the professionals about the attendance in these services; criterias for referencing the elderly; delay in referral services; difficulties in counterreferencing and the FHS in implementing the therapeutic plan. The third category shows as favorable aspects to the attention to the elderly the proximity of the FHS to the homes of the users, access to medical appointments and medication, home visits and group activities. The fourth category deals with strategies to be implemented in the FHS, such as professional training; prevention and health promotion practices; use of specific instruments to monitor the health of the elderly; improvements in the infrastructure of the units; increased quotas of examinations and specialized consultations. The professionals envisage new strategies for the health care of the elderly, such as the reduction of the number of registered users in the health care teams and the municipal policy of the elderly. It is concluded that the daily work of the Family Health teams is marked by general strategies of attention to the population and needs local and specific adaptations for the elderly population, which requires new ways of doing by the subjects practicing the attention to the elderly
