Resumo: This dissertation presents the results of a study conducted for determination of properties of intact rock. It was performed a series of tests in the laboratory of rock mechanics of the engineering school of the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in the following lithologies: quartzite, itabirite dolomite, quartz-schist and phylite sericitico. The set of samples used was obtained at the barn testimonials of polling for a mining company in the Quadrilátero Ferrífero in the state of Minas Gerais. Initially, it is presented a review that includes the procedures recommended by the international society for rock mechanics (ISRM), standards used for performing tests of rupture in the laboratory and for the measurement of sound velocity. The methodology employed in work deals with the uniaxial compressive strength test and the tensile strength test. The results are presented and discussed for each type of geologic material studied and it was concluded that for a better understanding of the behavior of masses geomechanical studied you must perform a greater number of tests.
