Resumo: The present study shows the investigation of the conceptual evolution possibilities in the practical work context in High School. The questions we investigate were related to the students cognitive process during the development of experimental activities in Chemistry. The thematic domain focused were the concepts connected to chemical reaction. The analyzed data were produced from the telling of the loud voice thinking, audio recorded by the students, during the development of the experiments. In this telling we verify if there were different complexity levels of thinking about the concepts developed in this context. We also looked to identify students thinking traces that could guide them to a conceptual evolution in Chemistry. We explained episodes that consisted of sequential description of the students ideas about the concepts related to the experiments. These episodes allowed several analyses and reflections around the conceptual development in the practical work context. We could verify that the students put in motion different concepts in different levels of complexity during the experimental activities. We identified the integration of more simple concepts in an explicative more complex system that provided traces that conceptual evolution occurred
