Resumo: Various materials are known and used in industry, especially metals, polymers and ceramics. However, the combination of these materials has been important for the creation of products with specific characteristics. Among the various materials used for the final product design, sandwich panels play an important role due to some propertiessuch as low weight, stiffness and high strength. The materials can undergo different machining operations during their processing, such as the drilling operation, which is discussed in this paper. Thus, it was intended to establish the relationship between the cutting geometry of different drills and their effects on the drilling of an aluminum andpolyethylene sandwich panel. The Drills Brad & Spur, twist drill with two edges, twist drill with three edges were used, employing cuttings speed of 24, 48 and 72 m/min and values for the feed rates of 0,05, 0,10, 0,15 and 0,25 mm/rev. For the thrust force the graphical behavior generated by each drill was identified, besides the presentation of the variance analysis. It was tried to establish a regression equation for each drill, inorder to present a model that represented the behavior of the thrust force when submitted to different cutting parameters. Considerations regarding the burrs were made by images and analysis of variance, while the circularity was discussed quantitatively. From the results, it was verified that the Brad & Spur presented burrs at the exit of the hole varying between 0,06 mm and 0,62 mm. As for the cutting efforts Brad & Sput obtained a minimum thrust force of 42 N. On the other hand, the twist drillwith two edges presentes a behaviour that can be easily modeled by means of mathematical equations. As for the circularity, the twist drill with two edges presented a minimum circularity of 0,01mm. During the presentation and discussion of the results, it was interpreted how the geometry of the drills influenced each result obtained
