It is noted also the need for more research on memory in the area of information science that can contribute to memory centers helping to fully accomplish its mission. Thus, this study sought to identify the structure and organization of the Academic Units of Memory Centers UFMG and understand the relationships between such centers and Information Science. This review will identify: organizational structure, archives, professionals, MCs UFMG users and identify information policies that drive such centers to understand how the production of knowledge and the flow of information in MCs contribute to preserving social and institutional memory. The methodology includes bibliographical research, documents, website consultations and multicase studies of MCs of UFMG Academics. It initially sought to define the concepts of memory, memory institutions, memory center, its peculiarities and its interrelation with the documents and information. The practical part was a study covering eleven (11) MCs of UFMG, using semi-structured interview techniques for data collection, as well as an approach considering the degree of structuring of the centers being analyzed in this approach, where nine of the eleven centers were studied. The result shows that there is need for the centers to put more attention on administrative aspects so that they can develop their activities based on a direction in order to achieve its mission more effectively. In communication, a category of users working together may develop websites and update links to release this work and enhance other elements which are in more advanced stages. Concerning the archives, to technically refine the existing categories and inventory that which each central memory possesses. We conclude that: (i) the surveyed Memory Centers posses a diversity regarding aspects such as; source, composition and institutional trajectory. Therefore there are unique features of the experiences of the centers; (ii) the Memory Centers demonstrate, regardless of their different origins and structures, an implicit goal of preserving culture and corporate identity through the preservation of archives, librarianship and museum collections, (iii) this particularity of the experiences observed in the Memory Centers of the same University, which leads to a rather diverse set in terms of structure, strength and objectives as well as a result which makes them practically individual cases, may have resulted from a lack of institutional policy for said Memory Centers. |
