Resumo: | The university, as responsible for the educational, cultural andtechnological formation of the countiy, has the library as a co-responsible agency in the mission of contributing to the dissemination of consolidated knowledge, for books continue to be important in formal education. In the context, the objective was to evaluate the level of satisfaction of faculty and students in the area of health in of the academic community, specifically the course of medicine of the Federal University of Piaui (UFPI) given the services provided by the Library Prof. Zenon Rocha of the Health Sciences Center (BSCCS). A questionnaire was used to collect personal data and academic category, frequency, schedule, reason of the frequency, services, main information sourcesutilized, bibliographic material, areas in need, degree of user satisfaction, relationship with the staff, search features used, physical installations, computerization of the library, access to the Internet and to databases of the medical area. As for students, the results has demonstrated that they are in its majority young and male; visit the library frequently, usually eveiy day. The sources of information more used by them are textbooks and considered hematology as the area more needing. Regarding the services of the library, their answers were mainly "satisfactory". As regard the relationship with the staff, the majority considers it good; as features used for information searching they appeal to the librarian and other library staff; the collection of books was considered by the students as good, whereas the periodicals were considered to be only adequate;in with relation to the question of attendance by the staff, they considered it good; the physical installations of the library is adequate. As for access to the Internet, the library not providing this type of service, those who have it get access through the Health Sciences Center. The majority of the students do not have access to the databases of the medical area.Regarding the faculty, these present some distinctions as to the level ofsatisfaction and personal characteristics. The majority are in their 40s, don't go often to the libraiy, make little use of the loan services of the libraiy. Therefore they go to the library rather with the intention of keeping abreast in topics of their interest and to prepare lesson and didactic material. Thus, it stands out that the service more used by the faculty is local consultation, the sources of infoimation more used are the periodicals followed by text books, the area in most need according them is that of the periodicals, followed by Public Health matters. Asfor the relationship with the staff, the majority considers it good. For searching and for suggestions they mostly look for the librarian and other libraiy staff. They also consider good the collection, in general, as well as attendance of the library and the physical installations; the omputerization of the library is wanting for it does not provide for Internet access. When they need to do so they have access to it through the CCS. Yet, they make very little use of databases of the medical area. |
