Resumo: Attention to school children health is an issue in international health promotion deliberations with immediate influence on Brazilian Unified Health System. Issues such as potentialities associated with the school universe, public expressiveness of the child and adolescent population group, and the increase of vulnerabilities related to childhood and adolescence justify the focus of public approaches in the field. Brazil aiming to follow the global steps of the students health care organization proposed the construction of the Health School Program (PSE), present in more than 80% of Brazilian cities, Belo Horizonte is one of the municipalities where the PSE happens since the first national designs. The general target of this research was to analyze the Health School Program in Venda Nova - Belo Horizonte from the perspective of intersectoriality in the actions of school health promotion, and as specific objective: to characterize the Health School Program in its components of health and education in the promotion of school health in the district of Venda Nova; identify the health promotion actions developed by the Health School Program in Venda Nova District; identify possible gaps/ challenges in health promotion actions proposed/ developed by the Health School Program. This is a qualitative and exploratory research based on a case study that used documentary analysis as source of data collection. Information contained in ordinances, institutional documents, websites and published articles were used. Criteria/ categories of analysis were established relating points such as creation/ implantation, operation, organization, advances and challenges. The results pointed out that the intersectoral proposal of the PSE is an action based on international milestones and experiences, a political plan still moving to expand back to the field of health promotion. Its operation has occurred since 2008 in Belo Horizonte, presenting related aspects to health promotion in the school such as: organization of services, mobilization and dissemination actions; intersectoral articulation and partnerships. Difficulties and gaps were identified in the process. The PSE involves specific actions and disarticulate approaches, but gradually issues restricted to behaviors establishment are replaced by intersectoral proposals committed to health promotion. In Venda Nova 28 municipal elementary schools are involved with the PSE, have partnerships and incentive in activities linked to health promotion. Among the challenges is the need to monitor and evaluate the PSE in the field of health promotion, the active insertion of the community in school contexts, and the expansion and strengthening of the PSE intersectoriality in the territories. The conclusion is that the PSE is an elaborate and dynamic experience, involving several and different actors. This is an important political action, which, despite the difficulties, has proved to be valid.
