Resumo: One of the main properties of materials used in automotive, food, naval, in orthopedic implants, among others, is the corrosion resistance. In this work we were performed unpublished studies on the properties of the ethanol extract of propolis as a corrosion inhibitor and as anti-corrosion coating for SAE1020 carbon steel and stainless AISI409 by classical electrochemical techniques and hifenada voltammetry technique cyclically the laser beam deflection probe. The electrodes were subjected to treatments as the commercial extract of propolis in NaCl 3.5% w / v in the middle and near neutral pH 5. functional groups and major components of the extract were identified, respectively, by molecular spectroscopy in the infrared region and high-performance liquid chromatography. under certain conditions of electrolyte through the ethanol extract of propolis exhibited anti-corrosion properties. Such behavior was attributed to 3,5-diphenyl-4-hydroxycinnamic identified as the main constituent of the sample extract produced in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Some positive results have been achieved in an ab-initio study. performed in order to evaluate the composite performance, also unpublished, bioglass-propolis as a bactericide in the coatings used in low-cost metal implants.
