Resumo: The present survey aimed to determine the prevalence of infection with Brucella canis in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais and the association with race, age, sex, and origin of dogs. We analyzed 1368 sera from dogs by immunodiffusion test agar gel using antigen from Brucella ovis. The results indicate the prevalence of infection with Brucella canis equal to 4.8% (65/1368) (95% CI 3.7% to 5.9%). The frequencies for males and females were 3.3% (29/876) and 1.6% (14/876), respectively. According to the two age groups was observed frequency of 0.8% (6 / 784) in dogs less than 24 months. As for racial distribution was predominantly mongrel dogs (26.5%) and race Pasto (16.5%) and Poodle (9.7%), and the frequency of the AGID reagents animals in these groups was 3, 9%, 3.7% and 1.8% respectively. When regional governments have been considered, no significant difference was observed. Thus, the prevalence of Brucella canis in Belo Horizonte was low and no significant difference was observed between dogs reacted with reference to gender, race, age and origin.
