Resumo: Haematological disorders are common in small animals clinics, especially those caused by hemoparasitosis. Acupuncture has been used in veterinary medicine in order to restore body's balance during such processes. Thirteen adult dogs, mixed breed, weighing between 10 and 20 kg, with or without ehrlichiosis and/or babesiosis were evaluated before and after acupuncture stimulation. Points B11, BP6 and VB39 were used. Three samples of each animal were collected to perform erythrogram, WBC, platelet and myelogram, at a six days interval between samplings. No statistical differences between hematological parameters after treatment were observed. However, animals without hemoparasitosis showed better responses as erytrocites and platetes counts raised. The averages observed before the 13 dogs acupuncture sessions were: hematocrit 32,92; hemoglobin 10.24; MCHC 34.36; VCM 65.93; HCM 20.56; RDW 14,20 and platelets 144,769.23 and after the sessions were hematocrit 35.31; hemoglobin 10.62; MCHC 34.23; VCM 67.77; HCM 20.22; RDW 14.86 149538.46 and platelets. Significant statistical changes were not observed in myelography. We can conclude with the results of this study that acupuncture could be a good adjuvant alternative for the treatment of hematopoietic diseases.
