Resumo: | With the advent of distributed generation, many companies are revisiting their approaches for energy consumption based on the fact that power can be treated as a strategic supply. Through ten case studies, the strategies for energy consumption of global corporations in emerging markets was studied. The goal of this work is to clarify the main reasons that lead these companies to insource an energy generation facility and to analyze the triggers of such decision. A framework to assess energy insourcing decisions which combines legal, economic, and strategic triggers with five energy supply chain aspects, namely sustainability, resources scarcity, commodities price, technological innovation, and sourcing options is proposed. The contribution of this research is twofold. First, the case studies together with the framework proposed could be used as a conceptual platform to appraise an energy insource decision. Second, by delving into the cases, a series of key propositions that highlights the main trade-offs and triggers of an energy insource decision are presented. |
