Resumo: This research aims to understand the uses and appropriations of the results of external evaluations by the school management team. The Basic Education Assessment System (Saeb), created in 1990, is responsible for integrating various external assessment programs. This integration took place within the scope of the educational reforms of the 1990s, which were consolidated with the Law of Guidelines and Bases of National Education, in 1996. Currently, Saeb applies the Prova Brasil to all students enrolled in Brazilian public schools in the 5th and 9th of elementary school and in the 3rd grade of high school, in the contents of Portuguese Language and Mathematics. The results of these tests, combined with data from the school census, mainly on dropout, make up the Basic Education Development Index (Ideb). However, for external evaluations to be able to contribute to the improvement of Brazilian education, many discussions are still necessary. With the purpose of understanding this dynamic, the research sought to analyze how managers appropriate the results and data generated by external evaluations. The research was carried out based on a case study and interviews were conducted with four school managers from the Belo Horizonte Municipal Education Network. The interviews were semi-structured and the content analyzes were performed by categories to refine the information and data collected. In addition, analyzes were carried out on data and educational indicators available in public databases from INEP, MEC and State and Municipal Departments of Education on the external evaluation programs in which the school participates. As a result, it is clear that the use of the results of external evaluations by members of the management team is incipient. It can be pointed out that teacher accountability policies, the lack of training and/or interest of teachers in external evaluations and the obstacles in communication between the Department of Education and managers can contribute to limiting the use of the results of external evaluations in the school everyday. The educational product developed corresponds to a tutorial that aims to help school administrators to understand and use the results of the Prova Brasil in their respective management plans. This tutorial will be available from the Entre Docentes platform, which shares and disseminates teaching practices.
