Resumo: | Objective: It is increasingly common occurrence of chronic diseases. A healthy dietfrom childhood prevents disease and promotes health for children. Eating behavior has its foundations laid in childhood, are transmitted by family values. It is crucial to analyze the quantity and quality of foods that make up the diet of children. This study aimed to group facts about infant feeding and identify factors associated with the Diet Quality Index. Sources of data: We selected 30 articles in the databases SciELO,PubMed, Medline and Lilacs. There was a synthesis of relevant points related to infant feeding, the relationship between socioeconomic factors, demographic and lifestyle with diet quality and use of the Diet Quality Index as a method to assess dietary intake and diet quality of children. Data Synthesis: Children are a vulnerable group of population. It's low consumption of fruits and vegetables. The feeding of children is usually not very diverse, consisting basically of a milk diet with high intakeof sugars and fats. The inadequate food intakecontributes to nutritional deficits in the preschool group, and this is related toaffordability, because the lowincome families may lead to a deficient diet while thediet quality improved with increasing the level of education of household head.There is a greater food insecurity among families crowded. Conclusions: The Diet Quality Index enables the performance of an overall assessment of the diet of children and the identification of socioeconomic, demographic and lifestyle are associated with it. |
