Resumo: This prospective and observational study sought to determine the acuity of echografic diagnosis in fetal bone dysplasias. The prenatal evaluation was carried out by echografic examination of seriate morphologicalultrasonography aimed at the achievement of the specific diagnosis of the type of the fetal bone dysplasia. The sample consisted of fifty five cases of fetal bone dysplasia diagnosed in the prenatal evaluation by the CEMEFEUFMG protocol of evaluation during the years of 1990 and 2008. The postnatal gold standard diagnosis were obtained by means of pediatric examination, genetic investigation and/or fetal necroscopy. The coefficients of diagnostic agreement (KAPPA) for the most common types of bone dysplasias and for the diagnosis of lethality of the fetal bone dysplasias were also obtained. We concluded that the diagnostic acuity of the fetal echography for the detection of the specific type of fetal bone dysplasia was variable depending on the type of dysplasia, although we observed a strong diagnostic agreement between the fetal echografic diagnosis and the one obtained in the postnatal evaluation for the lethal fetal bone dysplasias.
