Resumo: | One of the strange consequences of the mathematical structure of quantum theory is the existence of correlations that can not be explained by local realistic theories. This dissertation is devoted to the study of quantum nonlocality. We study the mathematical structure of the sets formed by the statistical results of correlation experiments. We show how the classical hypotheses of local realism impose restrictions on these sets, and that the correlations generated by quantum mechanics are able to violate such restrictions. Investigating the nonlocal character of quantum states, we see that entanglement is a necessary condition for the existence of nonlocal correlations, but it is not sufficient. We also discuss new scenarios recently proposed for the study of nonlocality, which are further strengthening the relationship between entanglement and nonlocality. |
