Resumo: | Brazil has a high concentration of passengers and freight transport in roads, which are responsible for about 75% of national industrial production outflow. However, most Brazilian highways do not present structural quality for a satisfactory traffic, resulting in increasing expenses in vehicle maintenance, traffics spend time, and the incidence of accidents. Most structural defects can be remediated with properly paved or coated roads. However, traditional methods of paving and coating are costly, no longer being a priority over other needs of states and counties. As an alternative of low cost coating, it was studied the reuse of industrial waste from mining and steel industry – mining waste and steel slag – which are abundant in Minas Gerais state – as alternative low cost inputs for primary coating, with application, as a priority, on roads that do not have priority for usual types of paving. The study was based on Brazilian Standard DNIT 141/2010, which deals with paving by granulometrically stabilized materials, or primary coating. The results, related to qualitative indicators, and monitored by qualitative observation of a constructed experimental road, indicate improvement of the performance of the studied coating in relation to unpaved roads with the same traffic and climate conditions. |
