Resumo: In this study, we present the results of the research that was developed within the scope of Professional Masters program at the Faculty of Education of the Federal University of Minas. We tried to explain and analyze the possibilities and difficulties in the planning and realization of a proposal of activities for the teaching of "fraction", with a group of students of Youth and Adult Education (YAE). For this purpose, we developed a set of activities that were presented to students. The difficulties experienced by them led us to a reflection and re-elaboration of activities. Another set of activities was proposed, now with an integrated work to the social and cultural context of the students. In our reading, we realized the need to approach the reality lived by them, in order to produce a significant mathematical knowledge. Within the perspective of Problem Solving, we worked on the concept of "fraction", which, according to research in the area, has been a great challenge for students of the YAE, often being approached by memorizing rules that do not contribute to their comprehension. We present the study and a sequence of activities that we hope to be relevant in the classroom while having use by teachers of YAE.
