Resumo: | The globalized market stimulated the banks to implement new technologies and do its processes more flexible. At this context, the intermediate management appears as a keyposition to reach organizational results. Women who had started working in low positions,now are assuming themselves as managers. The main objective of this work is to compare the professional way of women and men in the intermediate management at two private banks. It was searched to identify the existence or not of differences in management stiles betweenwomen and men, at difficulties and rewards received, as well as to check if there was discrimination in relation to women. In methodological terms, the research was quantitative, qualitative and descriptive, based on a field study and comparative study. Two banks were investigated in Belo Horizonte. The research was carried out on a sample of 42 managers 23 women (54,8%) and 19 men (45,2%). Data were collected through an interview. Later, it was realized a quantitative work followed by a qualitative one. The results show that women are younger than men. Women are still being responsible for children and housework. Men arestill being responsible for family expenses. The most of them, women and men, started their career in this actual bank, have been worked since the positions in the hierarchy until the actual manager position. Related to wages, men are still earning more than women. Women are more democratic than men to decide about problems with employees. In relation to developed activities, women, more than men, focus in people and client attendance. The main competences that contributed to promotion of managers were: to reach good results, good relationship, knowledge about banks and fields. The aspects considered more difficult in the exercise of the managerial career as for men or women researched are: pressure for results and goals, people's administration, competition among banks and among the own managers and lack of time to plan strategies. They answered the most important benefits were: direct and indirect wage, recognition, personal or professional realization. The personal characters that define a female and male management, a small number of women believe that there arent differences between women and men. Most of the men does not notice differences in the styleof management performance between women and men in the researched banks. The most of women said that they have never lived discrimination inside the researched banks. |
