Resumo: Distance education in Brazil aims to facilitate access to information. Distance learning has its own specificities and can not be viewed as a simple copy of the traditional classroom model. The Ministry of Education announced in the second half of 2013 that the main obstacles faced by institutions offering courses in this mode were the avoidance of students and the resistance of educators and students in relation to distance learning. Despite several investments and research carried out in this type of education, there is no consensus on the management courses in distance education. The aim of this research was to find student dropout indicators using methods and techniques of the information based on a mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology, so that they can guide the management of courses of this type. The indicators found and validated in this research were: Lack of interest from students, Lower training for use of the virtual learning environment of students, structural problems in schools chosen for application of the course, students who do not have e-mail, response activities not consistent with the course content, knowledge of absence from the student computer tool. The analyzed scenario was offered a course in distance mode Integrated Student.
