Resumo: | Through an ethnographic study in three regions that share the characteristics of great social and economic vulnerability, this undertaking aims to elucidate the different dimensions of financial exclusion and its effects, using a micro-analytical perspective. We sought to observe the relationship between individuals and the financial system, considering the present spatial aspects, and the urgent characteristics of situations caused by conditions of social disadvantage and economic hardship. An authentic and detailed analysis was developed from observations and primary data obtained by conducting ethnographic research in the following places: the Alto Vera Cruz community in Belo Horizonte; a small town located in the middle region of Jordan Jequitinhonha; and low-income Eastside neighborhood in Riverside (California, USA). The results drew attention to the possible existence of an induced financial inequality, as individuals have their relationships with the financial system determined by their socioeconomic conditions and the physical and structural features present in the places where they live. |
