Resumo: The simultaneous increase of electromagnetic emissions in urban environments and of the embarked electronics leads to a necessity of higher protection to the signals processing central that controls the functions in the modern automobiles. The discovery of new materials, in special way the intrinsically conducting polymer (ICP), offers possibilities of application as electromagnetic shield in substitution to metallic materials, objectifying cost and weight reduction. This work aims to present a study of mechanical and electromagnetic characteristics of polyaniline poly(vinyl alcohol) blends as covering films on polymeric materials surfaces. The results of this study had shown that the introduction of PAni in the PVA allowed the production of new materials with high processability (it was possible the production of auto-sustainable films and coverings with different thicknesses fromwater systems, that is, ambiently correct), high electric conductivity, suitable mechanical properties and composed from a two phases microstructure system, showing interaction between the components with partial miscibilidade. The blend came out successful in acting as electromagnetic shield, particularly in regions of frequency above 700MHz.
