Resumo: The present work aims discussing the process of building design in public institutions, which has some specific aspects when compared with Real Estate Projects, as well as the constraints imposed by Brazilian law 8666, other legal requirements, annual budgets, short term, and focus on reforms, proposing a simplified model for design coordination.A conceptual framework based on a concurrent design and other research projects about design process coordination and modeling, supplemented by studies of specific subject that the public sector issubmitted, were the basis for research that took place in a public financial institution that invest significantly in reform of buildings and has a self design engineering team and also engages design in the market. The design process employed was mapped and analyzed, and was proposed and applied a simplified model of design coordination. The results showed that the design coordination, based on concepts of concurrent design, is an integration factor between the stages of design process of reforms in public institutions, fragmented by legal and organizational constraints, improving interfaces, between clients and customers, disciplines and agents involved and between design and construction.
