This research presents the results of a survey that aimed to reconstructthe history of the Jose do Patrocínio Association.This organization ofAfrican descent not only aggregated but also directed by them between1950 and 1960 in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. The research included the study of documents, including photos, analysis of newspaper articles and semi-structured interviews with former partners. The work is organized into tree chapters. In the first, presents the research procedures used in the reconstitution of the actions of José do Patrocínio. In the second (most dense), makes a deeper theme Black Associations aims to present the theoretical framework that guided this investigation. In the third presented the results of research, analyzing the data itself. We consider the findings, pointing suggestions for future research
