Resumo: This research intends to understand the context of using ceramic floors, by people of level 1 of the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program at São Luís - MA. The population of lower income composes this level of the program. They have not been consulted about their needs at the time the projects. In addition, they have no other option about facilitates the acquisition of units in other residential developments in the city, because that have high prices for acquisition. It thus seeks to investigate how contemplated these people are in front of what they consider ideal for the floor of their own residence. It carried out a qualitative research, with data collection in the field, using the method of contextual inquiry with application of semi-structured interview and ordering of samples of ceramic plates based on the preference of each interviewee. It understood they prefer two types of plates, with polished and non-slip surfaces, prevailing the first considered easy to clean. The subjective aspect of feeling that the house is clean proved to be the most important for most of the interviewees.
