Resumo: The objective of this work is to constitute a (historical) narrative about the formation of teachers (mathematics) who worked in the Integrated Unit Hipólito of Costa, located in the village of Lago Grande - rural area of the Maranhão municipality of São José dos Basílios. We chose as the starting point of the study the end of the 1960s, when the Hipólito of Costa School Group, the current Hipólito of Costa Integrated Unit, was founded. In addition to written sources - documents, images and cartographic records - oral reports were used of five of the teachers who acted in this school. The written narratives constituted from an interview with each deponent were given according to the theoretical contribution of the Oral History methodology. The analysis was driven by axes of convergence and showed that the migration (migration) of the Northeastern states to Maranhão, during the 20th century, strongly marked the process of teacher training in the central region of this State. The present research is linked to the project that seeks to constitute a map of the "movement" of teacher education in the country, its conceptions and practices developed by the Oral History Group and Mathematics Education - GHOEM. The tessitura of this narrative and the record of the memories and experiences of the teachers inaugurate a "place of memory" about a scenario of basic (mathematics) education in São José of Basílios, that can be taken with traces, indications to think about the teacher formation in Brazil and, in particular, in the state of Maranhão.
