Resumo: The issue of garbage is one of the serious environmental problems at present, because the high consumption and demand of production of artifacts by the industries, causes in its post-consumption, the generation and the inadequate disposal of the solid residues, bringing problems for the environment and for the population, however, studies indicate that such waste is being used in the development of new materials and products. With the idea of sustainable development, the designer plays a fundamental role in creating new artifacts that minimize damages to the environment, and through the recycling or reuse of urban waste, can fit into one of the actions of the waste management plan, such as an efficient tool for minimizing this current scenario. The research proposal studies the viability of the production of a construction coating, the hydraulic tile, by partially replacing the mortar mixture (sand and cement) of the lower layer with grains of the solid residue, low density polyethylene (LDPE ), in the contents of 10, 20 and 30%. In order to reach the research objectives, the tests prescribed by ANBT NBR 9457: 2013, responsible for the specification and manufacture of the hydraulic tiles, were carried out. The conclusion of the research showed that the use of LDPE polymer residue in substitution of the mortar in the production of the hydraulic tile has potential productive viability in accordance with the norm, favoring the reduction in the consumption of natural non-renewable sources.
