Resumo: With the aim of promoting the inclusion of deaf people, debates and mobilizations have been taking place to ensure accessibility for everyone in society. Efforts have been made to articulate actions that address the challenges in the pursuit of social inclusion and public policies that consider the inclusion of deaf people. This research addresses the issue of the challenges and opportunities for the tourism accessibility of deaf people in the museums the Historic Center of São Luís, in the state of Maranhão. The general objective of this investigation was to analyze the challenges and opportunities for the tourism accessibility of deaf people visiting the cultural the Historic Center of São Luís in the Maranhão, in this research, the Museum of Maranhão Gastronomy and the Reggae Museum are highlighted, in which we investigate whether there are resources and tools to promote communicative and informational accessibility for deaf tourists in these locations. Furthermore, the study was based on theoretical references that relate to the presented results, in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of the rights, challenges, possibilities, and inclusion of the deaf public in museums. For the theoretical foundation, we engaged with authors who discuss these issues, considering the main themes discussed in the study that serve as a basis and direction aimed at advocating for the tourism accessibility of deaf people in public cultural spaces, as well as addressing the characterization of the right to accessibility for all people, both hearing and non-hearing. The relevance of this study lies in contributing to society through bibliographic production and field research on tourism accessibility and the inclusion of deaf people in museum spaces. Its theoretical basis is embodied in national legislation (Brazil, 1989, 1998, 2021) that highlights the State's responsibility to guarantee inclusion, ensuring everyone the full exercise of cultural rights and access to sources of national culture, in addition to documents that aim to promote the inclusion of people with disabilities or reduced mobility in the tourism sector, as well as in the authors Abreu (2019), Bourdiel (2007), Chalhub (2014), Darbel (2007), Lopes (2027), Nolevaiko (2028), Poulot (2011), Quadros (2004), Rojas (2015), Sarraf (2021) who argue that it is essential for society to have spaces that promote inclusion, especially for people with disabilities, planning means of movement, communication and all the necessary elements to guarantee the full participation of people with disabilities in these environments. Regarding the methodology, this is applied research. Concerning the procedures, it is characterized as documental and bibliographic. Therefore, the research has an exploratory and descriptive nature with a qualitative approach. Based on this study, we bring reflections on the topic, aiming to identify the challenges and possibilities focused on the tourism accessibility and inclusion of deaf people in these spaces, as well as understanding how communicative and informational accessibility is directed in these places for this public regarding their communities, practices, symbolic expressions, cultural knowledge, as well as issues of sociability, identities, and memories through the tourism experience of visiting that provides the opportunity for their full right of access to culture and leisure.
