Resumo: This research addresses the topic of urban violence, specifically with regard to episodes of popular justice caused by lynchings. The collective act under analysis has its own developments, procedures and characteristics, promoting severe sadness through the suffering of the lynched body. In this sense, it is proposed to analyze the trends of lynching in Brazil based on its emergence, development and characteristics, in addition to the interpretation of the most recent statistical data recorded. From this analysis, it will be possible to understand the social markers that make up the profile of victims of lynching in Brazil, as well as the social implications that deserve to be highlighted, especially the power relations that permeate society and interfere in this collective conduct, based on the philosophy of Michel Foucault, the desire to punish overflowed by man, based on the studies of Gilles Deleuze, and the mourning process of those who remained, based on the theory of philosopher Judith Butler, composing the interdisciplinary character of the research. Next, the analysis of the documentary “The first stone”, which portrays several cases of lynching that occurred in Brazil, will support the demonstration of the specificities and modus operandi of this physical, popular and severe protection, identifying and characterizing the acts and actors that make up the lynching.
