This research investigates the historical, social and cultural processes that were preponderant for the insertion of the city of Pinheiro in the movement known as Belle Époque. The investigation, which is still in progress, has been structured by means of identifying and analyzing cultural and urban transformations that occurred in the early twentieth century, between the 1920s and 1930s, in France and Rio de Janeiro, as cultural references of modernity. The study brings up reflections and interpretations on different documentary supports, such as bibliographic productions, journalistic sources and oral reports. The idea is to apprehend the webs woven into the collective memory, representations and imaginations built especially in the cultural dimension of the city in an interdisciplinary perspective between History and Cultural Studies. For such purposes, the concepts of Culture, Cultural History, Social Representations, Memory will be discussed in order to understand the context of rupture from a traditional and agrarian society into a modern and urban one.
