Resumo: |
Demands of the contemporary world and concerns for sustainability has made humanity review old materials production techniques and create a new scenario in which solutions to problems must be creative. Thus, the purpose of this research is to provide perspectives of design and their approaches in territorial design, sustainability, traditional knowledge, and product and identity appreciation, aimed at extracting and using natural dyes from São João de Côrtes, a community in the city of Alcântara, Maranhão, Brazil. The possibilities of the contributions of design to enrich the work with the vegetables of this village are presented, including the use of examples of how these materials can be economically feasible if one sheds new light on their uses. Accordingly, this research maps practices and knowledge related to dyeing with natural dyes as, for example, by the use in fabrics, whether they be used in fashion or in interior design. A new, creative way to use natural dyes was presented to the dwellers of São João de Côrtes by means of a natural dyeing workshop, pointing to a possible alternative for income. The pieces and specimens dyed in the trials and in the dyeing workshop, following references in existing literature on natural dyes and fabric dyes, as well as recommendations from expert artisans and villagers, resulted in guidelines for the procedures and in the construction of a color chart. |
