The general objective of this work is to analyze the impacts of emotional pressures on the Agroindustrial Sugar and Alcohol System in the municipalities of Maranhão, also seeking to analyze the causes of its occurrence, and the influence of the physiological pressures suffered on socioeconomic aspects. For this, the environment and the physiological pressures that influence the sector were analysed, under the approach of the Institutional Theory and the Agroindustrial System - SAG. The methodology was based on content analysis. Mixed techniques were used to treat the collected data (mixed research), with data processing performed by the IRAMUTEQ software tool. To identify the influences of institutional pressures in the sector, Oliver's model (1991) was used, based on its five factors that define the nature of pressures: cause, constituent, content, control and context. The results showed that regarding the tolerated subsidiaries, the plants seek legal tolerance, opting to accept the subsidiaries, having as their main cause the need for their operation and profit, in compliance with the rules and regulations required throughout the process. production, such as operating licenses resident by environmental, federal and state agencies. As for the constituent, the government is the main agent. As for the content, the plants need to follow certain requirements, such as those imposed by Resolution No. 67. Control is exercised under legal coercion, through norms imposed by the ANP, but also through an operating license.
