Morbidades na gravidez associadas ao nascimento pré-termo em São Luís/MA

Resumo: The morbidities in pregnant women during pregnancy and childbirth cause serious damage to the integrity of the health of those women and their conceptus, may evolve with the death of both or with serious problems such as preterm birth. It has as main objective to analyze morbidity in pregnant women as a factor associated with the occurrence of preterm births in São Luís, MA. This is an analytical cross-sectional study from the database of a research that investigates the causes of preterm birth and consequences of perinatal factors in child health. The sample consisted of pregnant women who delivered their babies in public or private institutions in 2010 in São Luís, MA. We used the chi-square test to assess the association between morbidity and preterm birth. Among the 5064 pregnant women participants, most were aged between 20 and 34 years (73.66%), was mixed/mulatto/cabocla (67.53%), schooling 9-11 years of education (57.93%) , lived in a consensual union (59.17%), and lived with 1-4 people at home (68.65%). Among the morbidities, there was a high prevalence of anemia (47.06%), urinary tract infection (26.17%), hypertension (16.34%), and lower prevalence of diabetes (2.10%), rubella (0.06%), toxoplasmosis (0.77%) and syphilis (0.65%). However, only hypertension (p < 0.001) showed to be associated with the occurrence of preterm births. We found a prevalence of 13.39% of preterm births. We conclude, be much higher prevalence of preterm births and morbidity in pregnant women in Sao Luis, MA, mainly anemia, urinary tract infection and hypertension, the latter being associated with preterm birth. Needing therefore effective measures for quality of care in pregnancy and childbirth in Sao Luis, MA.
