Resumo: Use of selective pesticides constitutes a viable strategy in minimizing the impact of products to beneficial organisms. So, the objective of the present work was to evaluate the selectivity of pesticides utilized in chrysanthemums for fifth instar nymphs and adults of Orius insidiosus (Say). The bioassays were conducted in the Selectivity Study Laboratory of the Entomology Department of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA), in Lavras, MG, under temperature of 25±2ºC, RH of 70±10% and 12-hour photophase. The pesticides utilized and their respective dilutions in g a.i. 100 L-1 of water, were: mancozeb (160), chlorothalonil (150), lufenuron (15), dicofol (36), bifenthrin (2), triazophos (40), methomyl (2,15) and acetamiprid (6), the control being made up only of water. The pesticides were utilized at the same concentrations used by the farmers of the Terra-Viva farm (Schoenmaker Group) in the towns of Holambra and Santo Antônio da Posse, SP. The sprayers were accomplished by means of Potter´s tower on fifth instar nymphs and adults of O. insidiosus. The parameters evaluated were mortality of fifth instar nymphs and of adults, the daily average and total number of eggs in 15 days and survival rate of them. Chlorothalonil was considered innocuous to nymphs and adults of O. insidiosus; mancozeb was considered moderately noxious to nymphs and slightly noxious to adults; lufenuron was moderately noxious to nymphs and adults; dicofol was noxious to nymphs and slightly noxious to adults; bifenthrin, triazophos, methomyl and acetamiprid were the most harmful, their being considered noxious to fifth instar nymphs and adults of the predator.
