Resumo: In the last decade, the Brazilian State has invested large amounts of money in Student Assistance. In view of this, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether there was an impact among the beneficiaries of the student assistance programs served by the Federal University of Goiás - UFG, for the period from 2010 to 2019, as a way of implementing the National Student Assistance Program - PNAES, capable of demonstrating the effectiveness of the public policy. Regarding the methodology used, a descriptive research was developed with a mixed approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods, with the use of secondary data on student assistance and institutional academics from UFG. Quantitatively, the intention is to investigate the institutional information of students, through the decennial analysis of academic data, examining academic data from both the MEC and UFG. Qualitatively, we sought to define student assistance, its historical context, as well as its effects on the evolution of educational indicators at UFG. The analysis was restricted to students enrolled in the in-person modality and enrolled at UFG campuses in the city of Goiânia. Data collection and survey were carried out through requests via the Citizen Information System (SIC/UFG) and through the open data platform “Analisa UFG”, in addition to databases from the Higher Education Census. The information collected received descriptive statistical and econometric treatment based on the logistic regression model, using Odds Ratio (OR) that estimates the probability of an event occurring, assuming that the dependent variable follows a standard normal distribution. The results extracted from the analysis of the model indicate that the student assistance actions developed by UFG are associated with lower dropout rates and higher academic performance. In this context, this study seeks to contribute to the optimization of the mechanisms for implementing student assistance through the PNAES, also evaluating the results obtained by students enrolled in the assistance programs and verifying the existence of a correlation between the implementation of this policy and the academic performance of students, within the average period of curricular completion, comparing the performance of students who were granted some benefit of student assistance with other students at UFG, who were not beneficiaries. In this way, we sought to contribute to the discussion of the subject, given the scarcity of studies on this topic. As a Technical Technological Product (PTT), the institution of a Right Expectation Form and an Annual Evaluation Questionnaire of the PNAES at UFG was proposed, since it can be inferred from the results that the PNAES effectively contributes to the reduction of social inequality in Brazilian public higher education, based on one of its main objectives, which is to contribute to social inclusion, through the permanence of the benefited student within the university.
