Resumo: |
Among various measures for assessing feed efficiency, consumption residual feed (CAR) has highlighted as lacking correlation with growth characteristics. Animals that exhibit negative CARs are more efficient when compared to animals with positive CAR due to consume less than the predicted amount for the same weight gain. Selecting more efficient animals, have been not only reducing costs production as well as reduced environmental impact because of the dimiuição emission of greenhouse gases, manure production and pasture area. The aim of this study was to estimate (co) variances, parameters and values Genetic CAR and associated features, aiming at their inclusion in breeding programs. Data from 238 bulls were analyzed Nellore, from the breeding program Nellore Qualitas. The MTDFREML application was used to estimate the components of (co) variances, heritability and genetic and phenotypic correlations of characteristics analyzed. The heritability values found for the characteristics were generally moderate to low, probably by small sample size of animals evaluated (n = 238). The inclusion of the contemporary group of animals allowed to obtain results more consistent estimates of parameters and predictions of genetic values for the measures assessed. Comparison of phenotypic values and predictions of genetic value for CAR showed that the phenotype of own animal is a poor indicator of their genetic value, especially in cases like this that the heritability of the trait analyzed was low (h² = 0.10). |
