Resumo: Aim: to evaluate the influence of silver nanoparticles to antibacterial effect, color change, sorption, and solubility of dental adhesives. Material and methods: they were analised four groups of dental adhesives: SB - AdperTM Single Bond 2 without adding NAg, SM - AdperTM Scotchbond Multi-use without adding NAg; SBAg - SB with addition of 0.1% of NAg ; SMAG - SM with addition of 0.1% of NAg. One handred and thirty two specimens of the adhesives were prepared according to the standard of ISO 4049:2010, with circular geometry dimensions of 10mmx1mm. After different periods of specimens contamination with Streptococcus mutans (ATCC 25175) (1min; 5min; 1h; 6h, e 24h) the antimicrobial activity was observed by bacterial grouth (optical density), and the presence/absence of bacteria on the specimens surface by Scanning Electron Microscopy (2500x e 5000x). Also evaluated the color change of specimens after adding NAg through the CIELab system, and sorption and solubility tests (ISO 4049:2010) were performed to verify the polymeric quality of materials. Data were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) followed by Tukey test for multiple comparisons, with p=0.05 for all tests, except for analysis of ΔE what underwent Pearson`s correlation (p=0.01). Results: there were no statistical differences between the values of optical density of the culture broth used to store the specimens contaminated with S. mutans, even with the addition of NAg (p>0.05). Both adhesives have significant change in color, after the addition of nanosilver in its composition (p<0.01). No statistical differences were observed on the values of sorption and solubility differences as the addition of NAg in studied adhesives (p>0.05). Conclusion: addition of 0.1% pure silver nanopowder in dental adhesive did not confer antibacterial effect to the material, cause material color changes and did not affect the values of sorption and solubility.
