Resumo: The present work deals with the historical aspects of mining, in the national scenario and in its influence in the formation of Goiás State. From this movement of settlement and territorial formation, the reality of mining activity is addressed, taking as a cut the municipality of Alto Horizonte, municipality of greater mineral production and collection of Financial Compensation for Mineral Exploration (CFEM), in particular aspects related to the type of development that occurs in the municipality. With regard to the developmental model adopted, the privilege of aspects related to local economic growth, to the detriment of qualitative aspects of development, such as health, education, security and employment, is questioned, and if mining activity is indeed capable of bringing improvements promised in business discourse, when it is installed in the locality and the relationship between Mining Company, Civil Society and State. In the last analysis, there are possible impacts brought by the mining activity to the municipality and alternatives for a greater strengthening of the popular awareness about the possible problems caused by the mining, being this strengthening a form of promotion of the Human Rights, and the claim of rights when injured activities.
