Resumo: The aim of this paper is to discuss how different uses of the image of Sebastião Rosa da Paz - founder of the Rural Workers Union of Uruaçu, assassinated in 1984 from politicians and landowners of this region - by the rural social movements. Command based on postures acquired by the Dioceses of the City of Uruaçu, Goiás and the Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) regarding his killer, conducting a study on the construction of memories of this individual as a martyr of the earth. To this end, analyze some of the archives made available by CPT in its Documentation Center, Formation Booklets and Letters exchanged between the bishops of the above mentioned dioceses, without understanding how the relations between history and memory present in this murder, a reflection of the tombs. , now surfaced in the north of the state during this period. In discussing some of the senses that permeate the life and death of “Tião da Paz”, note the elements provided by mitigating.
