This dissertation work aims to propose a typology of Roman military manuals of the period of the Principate. For this we use the two textual documents Stratagemata of Sextus Julius Frontinus and Polyaenus Strategica. We conducted an analysis of the lives of these authors, their works and military events of the most remarkable period in which they lived and wrote aiming a better understanding of why the roman aristocracy produced and consumed this type of literature.
