Resumo: This work presents a new modality of the Alternate Reality Game (ARG) called SHORT ARG. A proposal that preserves characteristics of the ARG, designed to be executed in the school, during the period of the Chemistry class, totaling approximately four classes of 45-minutes. The SHORT ARG is presented as a narrative, a story with a beginning, middle and an end that transits between concrete and virtual realities, in which students seek, in a collaborative way, to join clues and solve puzzles to solve a mystery. The SHORT ARG as a pedagogical game, presents four categories, in terms of the playful and educational functions of the game. The Formative Educational Function comprises aspects related to the conceptual discussions present in the game, the Educational Evaluation Function comprises the ability to diagnose through the game, the Immersive Play Function indicates the level of immersion that the game provides and the Moral Play Function analyzes how the students understand and follow the rules of the game. Based on the Piagetian theoretical framework, students lack scientific language, a superficial understanding of scientific concepts, and a lack of concern about quantitative aspects related to experimentation, which may occur due to the absence of schemas related to the concepts discussed, deforming or simple assimilations, and the difficulty of moving from intra- to inter and trans equilibrium. The SHORT ARG has proved to be an effective strategy for discussing scientific concepts, diagnostic assessment, immersion in the game and moral aspects in terms of the rules of the game. From our results it was also possible to elaborate the tetrahedron of the pedagogical game that includes the relations between the fun and educational functions of the game and the role of the teacher.
