Resumo: Although the academic production in the past 50 years has generated many studies about the relationship between Brazil and Argentina from the recognition of a similar historical development and of the strategic importance of the neighbourhood, intangible exchanges had a supporting role in these studies, as they also had in the history of bilateral relations. The work, under the diagnosis of culture as a model of integration not only depends on Government policies, but on an entire field where the society ideas transit, aims to verify how cultural exchanges have taken place during the period from 1889 to 1922 within bilateral relations. We believe that relations between Brazil and Argentina put on evidence in several perspectives – historical, diplomatic, economic, strategic – a historical movement of tension and distension recognized under a paradigm of rivalry that, at least since the fall of the monarchy in Brazil, goes with the discursive defence of the mutual benefits of cooperation and friendship, for an internal development project or for the international insertion. We intend to assure, on this mean, why this will had never solidified on continuous projects, remaining only in theory. For this purpose, we intend to establish a collection of printed works of argentine publishers, lead-writers and translators interested into solve a mutual unacknowledged assumption that hinders the bonds of friendship. From an archaeological approach, we gathered and analyzed a set of travel chronicles, studies, tributes, in order to characterize the dominance of prints and representations of travellers, journalists, diplomats, in other words, of a group of intellectuals who were interested in several aspects of Brazil. By doing so, we aim to understand the processes of emergency, abidance, transformation of perceptions about each-other, indicating and questioning assumptions, silences, ruptures that can explain and define why the culture was relegated to the background in the set of bilateral relations.
