Resumo: The Business Process Modeling (BPM) is an approach that is a response to the need to ensure greater efficiency and dynamism in the process of a modern organization, set in a context of major technological development and structural change in which it becomes essential that organizations not only adopt a new management model, but also make use of various technologies widely demanded in the global environment in which they operate. This study aimed to propose improvements in the procurement of library books CEFET/RJ through modeling and analysis of the process through knowledge of methodologies, techniques and tools of BPM. The study was conducted at an institution of higher education located in Rio de Janeiro (BR). After changes in its structure was realized that this institution has deficiencies in the implementation of some processes. A study of Business Process Modeling was performed to support the detailed analysis of its processes, namely the acquisition of books for the library. To collect data, we used the literature, documentary research, observation and interviews. The collected information about the current state of the process allowed the elaboration of a diagram which was highlighted all the activities that comprise the process. Then a detailed analysis of these activities was conducted to identify the causes of the main problem of the process tha is the delay in the acquisition of books. At the end, seven changes in practice that involve improvements to the chosen process are presented.
