Resumo: | In 1890, during the transition from the Imperial era to the Republic era, a skeleton was found in the Imperial Palace. By the recent established of the republican government in the country, this discovery had high repercussion in the press giving birth to some serial romances. They were inserted in the movements for Republic that associated the republican government to the progress and the civilization, absents from the prior government. In this way, the serials produced imaginary narratives about the skeleton case, speculating about the possible reasons for the incident in the Imperial Palace. They became to the imperial past to reveal occult secrets and mysteries that justify the creation of the new republican order.
