Resumo: This essay examines Instruction 113 of the Currency and Credit Board (SUMOC), established in January 17 , 1955, that allowed imports of machinery and equipment to Brazil without exchange cover, in the form of direct foreign investment. The study of the 1.545 licenses given by CACEX (the Foreign Trade Department of Bank of Brazil) authorizing the th entry of this investment between 1955 and 1963 allows the discussion of the impact resulted by the establishment of this exchange policy in the industrialization, the development and the internationalization of the Brazilian economy. The essay also makes an examination of which countries and foreign enterprises benefited from this policy, which brazilian companies and foreign branches of multinationals received this investment, in which economic sectors it was applied and the amount invested. A picture designed to be representative of the direct foreign investment in Brazil, at a time when the country is further industrializing its economy, is put together, highlighting an important period of the brazilian economic development.
