Resumo: | Texts in which image and word are associated increasingly circulate in contemporary western society, and thus demand that individuals have another kind of literacy, called visual. First and foreign language teachers must develop with their students the competences and skills required to the reading of such texts. In the particular case of a Brazilian Portuguese for Foreigners (BPF) teacher, working with genres composed by verbal and non-verbal elements can be a profitable experience owing to the variety of aspects to be delt with, namely: image, society, culture and language, among others. This research s aims are to analyze the visual component of the series of comic strips Gente Fina (by Bruno Drummond), also carrying out a study of the (socio)cultural and linguistic features highlighted in the corpus, and to present two accounts of activities motivated by some of these comic strips in BPF immersion classes in Rio de Janeiro, assessing their applicability to the development of reading (mainly) and writing. |
