Resumo: | The objective of this work is to identify the impact in performance including in connection with safety, environment, and health in the organizations as a result of the Organizational Functioning Style adopted and of the changes experienced by organizations in the modern world. In order to contribute to the improvement of SMS management in shipyards, which is the focus of this research, this work proposes a reflection on aspects regarding organizational functioning styles and safety, environmental, and health management in shipyards. It examines the administration of work; identifies the existing organizational structures; presents a brief history on safety, environmental, and health aspects in Brazil and the World; discusses management models existent in organizations; surveys the current status of the Brazilian shipbuilding industry and its relation with the company Petrobras. Furthermore, it conceptualizes and identifies the importance of the organizational culture and its influence in individuals attitudes and behaviors. Based on the Organizational Functioning Style Scale (EEFO Escala de Estilos de Funcionamento Organizacional), the field research shows the outcome in perception of the research subjects, comprising managing, leadership/coordinating, overseeing/supervisory, administrative, and operational functions relative to the Organizational Functioning Styles in two shipyards located in Rio de Janeiro. |
