Resumo: This work aimed to identify the key dimensions of IT governance that influence the perception of IT professionals working in the area of relevance of the implementation of IT governance model called - Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL). It also sought to identify and analyze how IT professionals in a large company in the energy sector have realized the impact of the implementation of IT governance model - ITIL on their work processes. For this, we performed a literature review, based on a bibliometric study on IT governance, beyond the presentation of competing models of governance. Based on these constructs was prepared a questionnaire which was answered by 338 IT professionals, selected through a non-probabilistic sample. Using exploratory factor analysis identified four key dimensions that contribute to the professionals perceive positively the implementation of a governance model, namely the importance of governance for the organization, changes in organization structure, the time taken to perform activities / implementation and improvements implemented because of ITIL. With regard to the perception of IT professionals on the implementation of ITIL in energy company surveyed, results showed that the benefits and advantages of its implementation met the expectations of professionals. Especially with regard to the monitoring of indicators of care, use of best governance practices, improved identification of improvement opportunities, alignment with the value chain and change management. However, the time and efforts to implement the governance model greatly exceeded the expectations of professionals
