This work is intended to identify the main gaps found in the logistical processes that involve sustainable purchases of goods and services of Federal Public Administration. The concepts of supply chain management and current legislation are used, as well as the case study of Fluminense Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology for further enhancing there search in this area. On the analysis of logistics processes at the considered Institute, sustainable government purchases were more focused. This was due to theneed of expand ingre search on the subject, recent legislation in Brazil and the importance of sustainability in the process. After examination of the factors that make procurement logistics processes inefficient, using the proposed methodology and adapting successful practices used in the private sector to related areas and specific characteristics of public service it is central aim of this study suggest improvements in the form of an action plan. The process was optimized in the categories of agility, bureaucracy, integration, transparency, infrastructure, training, information technology, e-government and public policy
