Resumo: Society tends to see the nuclear power as something dangerous mainly because of the waste that is produced. The word nuclear is associated to bomb thanks to the remarkable facts of Chernobyl and Hiroshima. That is a problem when trying to make a full analysis of the pacific uses of that technology. This dissertation points out the importance of informing society so that people can realize which is true and the myths around the subject. They can also analyse advantages and disadvantages of such technology in regards to other available sources. This work searches for the enligtening and acceptance by society of the energy obtained by nuclear fission/fusion, by developing studies on the security of such technology as much for people as for environment. Considering the necessity of new energy alternative sources that may stop the greenhouse effect, this dissertatin will point out the uses of nuclear power as no CO2 producer and a viable solution to replace the fossil fuels. Some documents were collected to present the most adopted school books on the subjects of science and technology, in regard to the environment and to energy alternatives. At the same time, it was possible to study the role of the teacher when transmitting the uses of nuclear technology, as well as an evaluation of school books contents.
