Through a reading of A morte do velho Kipacaça, Maio, mês de Maria and Mãe, materno mar, three isolated works by the Angolan writer Boaventura Cardoso, the intention is to demonstrate how the author constructs his plots on the basis of a constant negotiation of senses which emerge from two distinct facets of reality: the Bantu tradition and western modernity. Observing these transactions expressed in his language creation, history writing and representation of memory it is also proposed that this is the path the author has encountered to represent a kind of Angolan identity and to subvert the paradigms of coloniality which, in articulating its discourse of power, opposed local knowledge to those of the coloniser.
